neutra’s aesthetic

i was in palm springs recently and took a morning walk to see the the kaufman house designed by richard neutra in 1946. i was only able to see part of the home’s exterior, but that was enough to get a sense of the wonderful lightness that neutra brought to architecture. his use of lines and materials are second to none. judith gura said it is “one of the most important examples of international style architecture in the united states and the only one still in private hands.”

richard neutra was born in vienna in 1892 and died in wuppertal, germany in 1970. you can see some of his other works here.
